Amateur Competition Guideline
Purpose
The contest aims to give an opportunity for amateur morin khuur players to showcase the fruits of their hard work, inspire amateur players to improve their skills and reach new heights, promote Mongolian culture, and motivate others to learn to play morin khuur.
Eligibility
The contest is open to all amateur morin khuur players of all ages and nationalities except professional morin khuur players, or any music school students who are majoring in morin khuur.

Groups The contest will take place in the following three age groups:
Contest Rounds Each groups will have three rounds. Each contestant will perform in front of the judges. 1st Round Each age group participants shall choose 2 pieces for their first round according to the following guideline.

2nd Round
32 participants will be selected for the 2nd round and all participants shall choose 3 pieces each according to the following guideline.
3rd Round
Each 4 and total 12 participants with highest scores in Kids, Teens, and Adults categories shall qualify for the 3rd round. The participants who made it to the 3rd round shall choose their final round pieces according to the following guideline.
Timeline
1st round: October 27, 2023
2nd round: October 28, 2023
3rd round: October 29, 2023

- Kids (8 minutes or less in total)
- Traditional folk or minor long song
- A piece of your own choosing
- A classical piece of your own choosing
- Traditional folk or minor long song
- A piece of your own choosing
- A classical piece of your own choosing
- Adults (10 minutes or less in total)
- Traditional folk song, or minor or majestic long song
- A piece of your own choosing
- A classical piece of your own choosing
3rd Round
Each 4 and total 12 participants with highest scores in Kids, Teens, and Adults categories shall qualify for the 3rd round. The participants who made it to the 3rd round shall choose their final round pieces according to the following guideline.

Prizes and Awards
The Third Morin Khuur Festival in the USA Grand Prize Award winner and the winners of each group will be awarded with special prizes. Also, as a tradition, the grand prix trophy named after Batchuluun Tsend, co-founder of the “State Morin Khuur Ensemble” of the Mongolian State Philharmonic and People’s Artist of Mongolia, will be awarded to the Grand Prize Award winner.
